Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. This field first became an identifiable occupation in the latter half of the 19th century after commercialization of the electric telegraph, the telephone, and electric power distribution and use. The invention of the transistor and later integrated circuit, brought down the cost of electronics to the point that they can be used in almost any household object.
Electrical engineering is now subdivided into a wide range of branches including electronics, digital computers, power engineering, telecommunications, control system, instrumentation and microelectronics.
The need for technical manpower in the area of electrical engineering in respect of its generation , transmission, distribution, control and design and manufacturing of equipment for the above activities has always been recognized .
Electrical engineers work in a wide range of industries and the skills required vary from basic circuit theory to management skills required for a project manager
